Course Description:  Each section of this class will run for 18 consecutive weeks.  The leadership curriculum will consist of instruction in effective communication, public speaking, and parliamentary procedure skills.  The business curriculum will explore the requirements of starting a new business, management of that business and the importance of record-keeping in businesses today.

 

COURSE OBJECTIVES

CONTENT OUTLINE

Communication

·          Explore means of effective communication

·          Identify various avenues of communication

·          Evaluate the effect of perception on effective communication

·          Practice verbal and non verbal communication

·          Develop good communication for job interviews

·          Create a communication activity that can be used to teach others about effective communication

 

Public Speaking

·          Explore the various types of speeches and speaking

·          Identify the parts of a speech

·          Memorize the FFA Creed

·          Plan and research an agricultural speech topic

·          Develop a 5 minute speech on an agriculturally related topic.

·          Compete in the County Public Speaking Contest

Serving as an Officer

·          Identify officers appointed to various leadership organizations

·          Discuss the roles of an officer

·          List the duties of the officers on the FFA

·          Explore and revise the Chapter Program of Activities

Parliamentary Procedure

·          Identify the objectives of parliamentary procedure

·          Define the motions relating to parliamentary procedure

·          Accurately perform at least 5 parliamentary procedures

·          Effectively run a mock meeting

·          Participate in classroom debates governed by parliamentary procedure

Farm Accounting

·          Discuss the importance or record-keeping for all businesses

·          Identify the vocabulary related to farm accounting

·          Calculate net worth of a business

·          Accurately balance a farm accounting book

Farm Management

 

·          Describe common management practices in agricultural businesses.

·          Discuss the roles of an employer versus an employee

·           

Entrepreneurship

·          Discuss what an entrepreneur is.

·          Identify entrepreneurs on the local, state, and national level

·          List key factors in the success of a new business

·          Recognize the positive and negative aspects of starting your own business

Writing a Business Plan

·          Explore avenues for an entrepreneur to receive funding for a business venture.

·          Discuss the roles of a business plan in obtaining funds from a financial institution

·          Identify all parts of an effective business plan

·          Complete a business plan project
