Course Description: 

Students will receive step-by-step instructions for using Microsoft Access, a database management software program.  Through a variety of hands-on projects, students will be provided with an in-demand skill.  Organizations from small businesses to the federal government use databases to manage and report on vast amounts of data.  Learning to use a database management program will be especially useful to college bound students and for students entering the workforce.  Upon successful completion of this course, students will be prepared to take the MOUS (Microsoft Office User Specialist) certification test for Microsoft Access.

Students will be able to use the design and update features of Access.

Search for a record, use filter by form, delete a record, add a field, use update query, use delete query, create a lookup field, use a subdatasheet, and create and use indexes.

Students will be able to create and use reports, forms, and combo boxes.

Create a report, add subtotals, change properties and change labels

Create a form, place combo boxes that select values from a list and from a related table, add a title and enhance.

Students will be able to enhance forms with OLE fields, hyperlinks, and subforms.

Add fields to a table, enter data in OLE fields, enter data in hyperlink fields, create a form with subform, add special effects, and add a form title.

Students will be able to create switchboards, PivotTables, and PivotCharts.

Create, add, run, modify and copy a macro; create a switchboard; create and modify switchboard pages; create a query, create a pivot table, and create a pivot chart.

Students will be able to create reports and forms using advanced techniques.

Create queries, add fields to a report, add date, page number and title, add a combo box and modify.

Students will use Visual Basic for applications and creating multipage forms.

Create functions in a standard module, use functions in a query, create sub procedures, create a function

Students will learn how to administer a database system.

Convert a database to an earlier version, use the table analyzer, use the documenter, enable error checking, add a smart tag to a field in a table or a control in a form, set passwords, encode a database, and create an MDE file.
