Darkhorse Percussion’s Greater Johnstown Competition Recap
Saturday, Darkhorse Percussion won their competition at Greater Johnstown Area Highschool with an overall score of 78.95. The show for Darkhorse went well overall. Right before the show started, there was a slight tech issue with the speaker, causing it not to turn on. However, it was amended quickly; luckily there was no time penalty. The sub-captions that were judged can bring good in-site for where the ensemble can improve and where they are succeeding in. The Music caption got a 24.60, the Music Effect caption got a 23.25, The Visual caption got 15.90, and the Visual Effect caption got a 15.20. With this, we can see that Darkhorse Percussion is doing significantly well in music and music effect but needs further work in visual and visual effect. The secondary ensemble, Darkhorse Percussion Stationary (an ensemble for younger students) also performed at this competition, receiving a total score of 74.20. Darkhorse Percussion Stationary significantly improved their performance, going from 68.80 to 74.20. This jump in score is significant because it is the highest score Darkhorse Percussion Stationary has ever gotten, beating their 72.40 from regional championships in 2025. Darkhorse Stationary Percussion will be ending their season on Saturday, April 25th at Region Championships at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania, all the best of luck goes to them for their final run of their show: Synesthesia. While Darkhorse Percussion Stationary does not go to Wildwood, The Darkhorse Percussion marching ensemble will still be heading off to Wildwood for the Atlantic Coast Championships! Still, there is plenty of work to be done before Darkhorse Percussion head off the Wildwood, New Jersey for Championships April 29th – May 1st! good luck to all performers to bring home another championship title!
